Duke of York Pays Respect on Bomana War Cemetery

BOMANA (PORT MORESBY) - “In memory of the British and Commonwealth servicemen giving the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, Andrew”.

Those were the words of tribute that His Royal Highness, the Duke of York Prince Andrew wrote in his card when laying down wreaths at the Bomana War cemetery, Thursday (2/7).

Prince Andrew was welcomed and taken on the official paying of respects at the cemetery by the Manager fir the PNG Office Australian War and Graves Department of Foreign Affairs Mr Robert Evans.

After the laying of wreaths and the official flag raising ceremony, the Prince was given a tour around the Bomana War cemetery, after which he proceeded to sign the official visitors log book.

Other dignitaries included the Sports, Recreation and Special Events Minister Justin Tkatchenko, Australian High Commissioner to PNG Deborah Stokes, the Acting Head of Australian Defence Staff PNG Lt Col Steve Blair, Blair and the PNGDF Commander, Gilbert Toropo and other official dignitaries.

This is just of of the many diplomatic stops along the way for Prince Andrew during his stay in the country.

His Royal Highness is in the country to officiate at the opening of the 2015 Pacific Games. [PNGFM]
